The colours we choose for our walls play an important role in our homes. They are more than just decorative, colour is emotive and can have a big affect on our happiness and well-being. Meaning that in this current situation finding the right colour scheme has never been more important.
This blog post highlights the influential colours to watch and consider for you homes in 2021.
1. Calm inducing grounded tones

Colour: Brave Ground
Dulux's colour of 2021, Brave Ground, was selected by the brand due to its warm neutral feel. The colour is considered to be both comforting and grounding with the paint experts at Dulux stating 'the colour that will enable people to draw upon the strength of nature to help them find the courage to embrace the future.’
It is a versatile colour that pairs well with a wide selection of colour palettes.
2. Notes of olive green

A very popular colour choice for 2021. Head of creative at Farrow & Ball, Charlotte Cosby, is quoted saying "In the bedroom olive green can help to create a serene environment. lt is also suited to rooms that overlook nature. The colours from the great outdoors will further enhance the green tones of the walls and create a relaxing outdoor feel in your home."
3. Clean shades of blue

A calming colour choice that pays homage to the natural world. The marine like shade is great for adding serenity.
4. Expressive accents

Whilst most trends of 2021 are about tranquility and creating a calming environment, there's one that is very expressive and made to stand out. Used as accents, this trend uses braver colours that adds vitality, punch and personality to homes.
5. Warming reds

These rich saturated hues of warming reds are chic by day and cosy by night, welcoming a grounded but luxurious atmosphere to any room. Ruth Mottershead, the creative director at Little Greene, explains that ‘Bold yet natural pairings are also on trend, with strong greens being paired with striking tones such as ‘Chocolate Colour’, or rich ‘Baked Cherry’ in combination with ‘Invisible Green’ to create dramatic yet intimate and inviting interiors’.
6. New neutrals

Over recent years there has been a resurgence of milky toned neutrals. Ruth Mottershead sees '2021 as being a year of creating cocooning, cosy spaces, there will be a shift away from the cooler greys, and warm neutrals such as ‘Oak Apple’, ‘Mushroom’ and ‘Bath Stone’ will become the go-to tones,’.
